Sunday Scribblings # – Art
I was thinking all day yesterday about this topic, especially as i have caught a bit of radio 4’s book of the week which was “the last supper” by Rachel Cusk.
Actually is was book of the week that got me here in the first place, i heard then read and now follow the blog: a wife in the north.
Anyway, I was very taken by the way Cusk writes, and i feel another book purchase coming on.
Back to art. Its a funny thing. Everyone is always arguing about oh that’s art, er no it isn’t. That’s beautiful, no its ugly.
But surely if beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
then art must be too.
And, if art imitates life,
perhaps life is in the eye of the beholder.
What i mean is, perhaps whether our lives are easy or hard, whether we are rich or poor, well or sick, perhaps none of those things are the point.
Maybe its more the approach we take to these things that counts.
If all of art was full of perfect looking people, perfectly happy, obviously having every material pleasure… wouldn’t we consider it shallow?
Isn’t it in some of the darkest times of history we have seen the greatest flame of love?
When i got married, not two months ago, I promised for for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. But I didn’t marry him for those things, I married him because he is my hearts companion, whatever the weather.
The focus of my marriage is to give thanks and live in hope, to see all things as a blessing or a lesson.
To behold in love.
is in the eye of the beholder,
may we all behold in love.
