#6 Follower of Him

Church. Sometimes it can be hard work.
But even in a service I might find hard going, Jesus has his way and breaks through. Sometimes we grind though words which in reality are life giving:
“The Lord is here, His Spirit is with us, lift up your hearts, we lift them to the Lord” (even as I write these words, how beautiful they are)
sometime the tune doesn’t do it but if we read the words…
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
no merit of my own I claim,
but wholly trust in Jesus’ name
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand
When weary in this earthly race,
I rest on Hid unchanging grace;
in every wild and stormy gale
my anchor holds and will not fail
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand
His vow, His covenant and blood
are my defence against the flood;
when earthly hopes are swept away
He will uphold me on that day
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand
When the last trumpeter’s voice shall sound,
O may I then in Him be found!
clothed in His righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before His throne
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand –
all other ground is sinking sand
E. Mote (1797 to 1874)

Its worth it, to read these words and know they are true.

  1. That is one of my favorite hymns, and given the fact I grew up memorizing about 200, this one is one of the one that visits me often – while housekeeping or driving from here to there. Thank you for the reminder.
