I used to go

and clean 
her brass ornaments
She paid me 
each week
with money
and wisdom
that was later

to save my life.

  1. The structure of your poem lends mystery and emphasis to how you were mentored. Separating that final sentence works well here. I like that wisdom sank in later, as it often does.
