Simpler living and tidyness

In our ongoing quest for a simpler life which involves less “stuff” R and I have tidied the spare room. I have to confess at this point that although I love a tidy house, it isn’t something that comes naturally to me, unlike R who is tidy pretty much all the time… I aspire to that.
Anyway, the spare room is done. Some things have been recycled, some off to a charity shop, and there is a pile for a boot sale we intend to go to towards the end of next month.
It’s bliss. We now have room for the laptop upstairs so now there’s more room downstairs. I am experiencing the truth that an uncluttered house brings with it an uncluttered mind.
I’m reminded of Jesus pointing out that our treasure is where our heart is. If we are able to hold on to possessions more lightly it means we have the capacity to hold on to what truly matters in life more tightly.
If my mind is always cluttered with “stuff” how do I expect to have room to love my neighbour as myself?
All that and a tidy spare room.
