Puppy Lessons

 I have discovered R and I’s new puppy has a better understanding of Lamentations 3:22-23 than I do:

 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, 
   for his compassions never fail. 
They are new every morning; 
   great is your faithfulness.


Each day he gets up and expresses such excitement. It is the same food as yesterday, the same garden to run round, the same toys to play with – technically there is nothing new in his life at all, its the same old thing day in and day out.


And yet he approaches it all with boundless joy. A person could learn a thing or two about gratefulness from Atom and all of his 12 weeks of life.


I saw something on facebook the other day, where a virtuoso violinist went out and played in a train station, where most people just passed him by. I think this may be the key to Atom’s success – he notices everything. and because he sees  it, he has the chance to enjoy it.


This morning. while he was scoffing his breakfast, I took time to look out the kitchen window, and lo and behold, a world of wonder was there – sky and trees, bulbs pushing their way up through the earth… and a moment of peace for me where i could begin to appreciate that the mercy of Jesus really is new every morning.
